Diablo 4 Season 15 hides one of its best nostalgic surprises behind a proper trail of clues. To reach Old Tristram, you'll need to track down ten journals once owned by Deckard Cain. They are scattered across Sanctuary, so this isn't a quick town errand. It's a road trip through deserts, forests, mountain paths, and forgotten ruins, with a useful supply of D4 items making the journey easier when your build still needs work.

Start With the Southern Routes

The first four entries are spread across Kehjistan and Hawezar. In Gea Kul, search the wooden piers near the southwestern docks. The second rests inside the Imperial Library, close to the first archway south of the waypoint. For the third, take the Tarsarak waypoint and travel northeast into the Scouring Sands. The journal sits among the dunes rather than beside a major landmark. The fourth is much easier to spot: head to Wejinhani and check beside the alchemist, just east of the waypoint. Keep watching the minimap, because the nearby marker makes each search less frustrating.

Cold Roads and Broken Stone

Journal five waits at Lorath's old cabin between Kyovashad and Nevesk. From Kyovashad, ride southwest and follow the rough ground until the cabin comes into view. The sixth entry is in the Dry Steppes. Travel from Hidden Overlook towards the west, then look for a ruined bridge near a dungeon. The journal stands near the viewpoint at the end of the broken structure. It's an easy one to miss if you stay on the main road, so slow down when the terrain opens up around Guulrahn.

Scosglen Search Table

Scosglen holds three entries, and the route is easier to plan when the locations are compared side by side: Marowen - northwestern docks - journal seven; Braestaig - outside the nearest dungeon - journal eight; Under the Fat Goose Inn - passage west of the nearby dungeon - journal nine. The last location requires crawling beneath a narrow opening into an old fort. There's no complicated puzzle involved, but the entrance blends into the scenery, so check the walls carefully.

Opening the Memory

The tenth journal returns you to the Fractured Peaks. From Yelesna, follow the winding road northwest through Mistral Woods until you reach the Horadric Vault entrance. Once every entry is collected, return to the Imperial Library and speak with Deckard Cain. His dialogue opens the way to Deckard's Memory, where Old Tristram waits. Pepin, Gillian, Farnham, and Wirt are all present, while side activities include finding Ogden's missing sign and facing the Butcher. Later, stronger characters can gather the Splinters of Terror, Destruction, and Hatred, combine them into Wirt's Lucky Coin, and use it at the fountain to open the Mythic Portal. Preparing with D4 items cheap can help before taking on Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal together.
